This is a great restaurant. Highly recommend. Lovely family run business. Need to book in advance (suggest 2-3 days). Food and service was fantastic and the owners delightful hosts.

We had the best night at Hummingbird. We booked well in advance as we had heard how good it is. It was a special dinner out for my daughter's 21st birthday and they made such a special effort to make the night memorable. The food is amazing! The hosts even came out and waved us off at the front. Highly recommended!!

Great service and food

This is a very good space shop. The salad with the original dressing is excellent.

The best way to describe Hummingbird is that it is a tourist trap you don’t mind getting trapped in. With only 6-8 tables, this small restaurant run by a lovely husband and wife team exudes warmth and hospitality. The food is tasty despite being predictable and perhaps marked up heavily for the “gaijin” market (mains >¥2000). Its worth going once for a quiet French home cooked meal that has heavy japanese flavours.

We are suprised there are no reviews for this place, the food was that great last time, we had to come back, modern Japanese/French home style kitchen. Does get busy, so book ahead

Loved dining here. Took my partner for her 49th birthday. Had a nice romantic table to ourselves. Food was delicious and the service was very personal. Husband and wife team love what they do and it reflects in the whole experience. The first page of the menu says it all x

Never thought I would have my best tomato, basil and mozzarella in Japan! Every dish surprised us in just that same way at Hummingbird, including the salmon in white cream sauce, Japanese style meatloaf and Japanese style risotto. Simply delicious. Authentic, local, quaint and family-run affair - the story is inside the restaurant, not the exterior. :-) Reservations required, and worth the effort.

Hummingbird is a very special dining experience. A wonderfully hospitable and kind husband and wife team serving delicious Japanese food from what is, essentially, the front room of their home. A memorable experience.

Lovely eating place with a great menu and excellent food

Simply the best restuarant in the resort that we tried. Traditional Japanese food. Small, family ran restuarant. Seats around 14 people max so reserve as soon as you arrive in the resort. The spicy shrimp starter is delicious; as are the three mains we shared. Thank-you!

Very cosy house restaurant with very personal service by the owner chef. Lovely and super tasty home cooked food. One of our best meals in Hakuba. Reservations essential.

Simply delightful. With limited Japanese speakers in our party we were able to navigate food allergies and enjoyed a quaint and assorted menu. Shared family style and every dish ordered became a new favorite; sushi, noodles, chef's choice salad, wygu... Service was very personable and caring, as long as you aren't rushed and book in advance, you should enjoy.
